63 researchers in the single-year list, 56 in the career-long list, and 35 included in both.
The University of Thessaly congratulates the researchers whose work is recognised in the Stanford/Elsevier database of highly cited scientists, widely known as the World’s Top 2% Scientists. The University’s consolidated record includes 84 individual researchers affiliated with the University of Thessaly.
Version 9 of the database, published on 7 October 2026, features two lists reflecting different timeframes of scientific impact. The single-year list assesses citations received by published research during 2025, while the career-long list reflects the impact of researchers’ scientific careers, based on data available through the end of 2025.
Specifically, 63 researchers are included in the single-year list and 56 in the career-long list. Of these, 35 appear in both, demonstrating recognition in terms of both the recent and cumulative impact of their research. The remaining 28 researchers appear exclusively in the single-year list, while 21 appear exclusively in the career-long list. The combined total is therefore 84 individual researchers, with no double counting.
The database draws on Scopus data and standardised bibliometric indicators, including the composite c-score. Its methodology takes into account citations, co-authorship, and authors’ positions in publications, emphasising the impact of research rather than publication volume alone.
The Rectorate extends its warm congratulations to the researchers for this significant achievement and their contribution to the international visibility and recognition of the University of Thessaly. At the same time, it acknowledges the efforts of all members of the University community, recognising that the production and dissemination of knowledge are collective endeavours founded on perseverance, collaboration, and scientific creativity.
The international impact of the University’s research is a source of pride and an incentive to continue advancing scientific excellence. The University of Thessaly recognises the valuable contributions of its researchers and reaffirms its commitment to supporting research and the people who drive it forward.
Note: This listing reflects bibliometric research impact and does not constitute a comprehensive assessment of researchers’ scientific, teaching, or societal contributions.
