The University of Thessaly’s student research group, Hermes Team, achieved a significant distinction at the 1st Hellenic Robotics Forum (HRF 2026), held on 1–2 July 2026 at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens, Greece.

The forum was organised by the HERON Hellenic Robotics Center of Excellence, through the HERON Unit of Excellence at the Athena Research Center. It served as an important meeting point for the Greek and international scientific communities working in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. The event brought together academics, researchers, start-ups, industry professionals and members of the Greek scientific diaspora, featuring more than 110 research presentations, keynote speeches, panel discussions and live technology demonstrations.

The Hermes Team played an active and multifaceted role in the forum, showcasing research conducted at the University of Thessaly in the field of assistive robotics.

The team participated in a Spotlight Session, presenting its latest published research, while also contributing to the Poster Session with a paper entitled “HERMES EXO: Empowering Mobility with Modular Lower-Limb Robotic Exoskeleton for CYBATHLON 2024.” The research focuses on the innovative modular design of a lower-limb robotic exoskeleton, with potential applications in mobility assistance and rehabilitation technologies.

In addition, Hermes Team hosted an exhibition stand, where members presented their work, established connections with researchers and industry professionals, and shared updates on their preparations for the international CYBATHLON competition. The highlight of the team’s participation was receiving the prestigious Best Student Paper Award, recognising the scientific quality and research excellence demonstrated by its student-led work.

This distinction represents a significant achievement for the members of Hermes Team and highlights the strength of student research at the University of Thessaly, as well as the University’s commitment to bridging academic knowledge, technological innovation and practical application.

The award further reinforces the University of Thessaly’s growing presence in cutting-edge scientific fields, including robotics, artificial intelligence and assistive technologies, while demonstrating the high standard of research undertaken by its student teams. Building on the expertise, experience and valuable feedback gained at HRF 2026, Hermes Team continues to advance its research, aiming to further develop its technologies and represent the University of Thessaly in future international scientific and technological challenges.
