Honorary Doctor of the Medical Department of the University of Thessaly was declared the Professor of Surgery of the London Imperial College, Mr. Paris Tekkis, during a special ceremony at the Hippocrates amphitheater in Biopolis.
The professor and his team are internationally recognized for their work in advanced rectal cancer and reconstructive surgery for inflammatory bowel disease. As mentioned in the biographical reading he has received several awards, including the Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the David Dunn Medal from the Association of Endoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland and the Piedmont Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Award from the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons, and as of 2022, has published over 420 peer-reviewed articles in medical journals and contributed to 30 books. He has given more than 350 presentations and lectured in more than 35 countries. Professor Tekkis has made a decisive contribution to the further training and development of many young Greek surgeons in the field of Colon and Rectal surgery and actively participates in two PMS of the University Surgery Clinic. In the last 10 years, he has also willingly participated as an honorary guest in Panhellenic Conferences and Seminars concerning Colon and Rectal Surgery, conveying his unique clinical experience, but also his pioneering academic opinions and proposals that are universally accepted and recognized. The event concluded with a speech by Mr. Tekkis on the modern management of advanced rectal cancer.
