{"id":8156,"date":"2025-08-29T15:58:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T12:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medical.edu.gr\/?p=8156"},"modified":"2026-11-04T16:45:07","modified_gmt":"2026-11-04T13:45:07","slug":"international-center-for-medical-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medical.edu.gr\/el\/international-center-for-medical-education\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Thessaly Emerges as an International Center for Medical Education Inspired by Hippocrates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Professor Dimitrios Bogdanos discusses the University of Thessaly&#8217;s rise in international university rankings and its vision for Larissa on ERT Larissa.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>August 29, 2025 | Source: Ert News<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Dimitrios Bogdanos, Professor of Internal Medicine and Autoimmune Diseases and Director of the Medical Degree English Program at the University of Thessaly, spoke on ERT Larissa&#8217;s radio program <em>\u201cThessalian Periscope\u201d<\/em> about the University&#8217;s record-breaking rise in the international Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the interview, Professor Bogdanos also outlined the ambitious vision shared by the leadership of the Medical Degree English Program, the Department of Medicine&#8217;s academic community and the University&#8217;s Rectorate: to establish Larissa as an international center for modern medical education, inspired by the principles and legacy of Hippocrates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The discussion was prompted by the University of Thessaly&#8217;s significant improvement in the internationally recognized Webometrics university rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the ranking cited in the report, the University of Thessaly reached <strong>808th place worldwide, climbing 80 positions and recording a 9% improvement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Bogdanos noted that, among approximately 30,000 higher education institutions included in the ranking, the University of Thessaly is positioned within the <strong>top 3% worldwide<\/strong>. At the national level, the University ranks sixth among Greek universities, following the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Patras and the University of Crete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Professor Bogdanos, this substantial improvement reflects the University&#8217;s strong research performance, as well as its growing international engagement, outreach activities and interaction with the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reflecting on the <strong>first year of operation of the Medical Degree English Program<\/strong>, Professor Bogdanos emphasized that students have reported <strong>high levels of satisfaction with their educational experience<\/strong>. He also highlighted the importance of living and studying in Larissa, a safe, medium-sized city that offers a welcoming environment and a high quality of everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further noted that, once fully developed, the Medical Degree English Program is expected to accommodate <strong>600 students<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Building on the growing momentum of the Medical Degree English Program and the broader academic and research activities of the Department of Medicine, the University of Thessaly is taking significant steps towards establishing Larissa as an international center for modern medical education, drawing inspiration from the legacy of Hippocrates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hippocrates, widely regarded as the Father of Medicine, spent much of his life in the wider Larissa region, where he also passed away.
