Welcome Message from the Rector

Dear Students,

On behalf of the Governing Council and the Rectorate of the University of Thessaly, I extend a warm welcome to you and offer my sincere congratulations on your admission to the University. Your achievement reflects your dedication, perseverance, and aspirations, as well as the support of those who have accompanied you on this journey. As you embark on this new chapter, you will have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in your chosen field of study, broaden your understanding of the world around you, and develop both academically and personally.

The transition to university life is an exciting and formative experience, although it may also bring uncertainty and new challenges. For many of you, it will involve moving to a new city, adapting to an unfamiliar environment, and assuming greater responsibility for your academic progress and personal development. There is no expectation that you will have everything figured out from the outset. Allow yourselves the time to adjust, establish new connections, and develop the confidence and independence that university life fosters.

Above all, I would like to assure you that you are not alone in this journey. The Rectorate, together with the University’s academic and administrative staff, is committed to supporting you throughout your studies by responding to your needs, providing guidance, and assisting you in addressing challenges and pursuing your initiatives. I encourage you to seek advice and support whenever necessary. Student welfare and support are integral to our mission and responsibilities as a public higher education institution.

Your academic experience will be shaped not only through teaching and learning in lecture halls, laboratories, and libraries, but also through dialogue, collaboration, and the critical exploration of new ideas. I encourage you to pursue evidence-based knowledge, engage in critical and constructive inquiry, and approach differing perspectives with openness and respect. Higher education must prepare you for your future professional careers while also cultivating independent thought, intellectual integrity, and a strong sense of social responsibility.

Our vision for 2030 is to establish the University of Thessaly as a strong, modern, sustainable, and inclusive public university, distinguished by high-quality education, research excellence, international engagement, and a meaningful contribution to society. In advancing this vision, you are not merely beneficiaries of the educational opportunities the University provides; you are active members of its academic community and contributors to its future development.

I encourage you to engage with our student associations, research initiatives, and cultural, sporting, and volunteering activities. Take advantage of the opportunities that align with your interests, participate actively in university life, and develop initiatives of your own. The University is committed to fostering student creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovative ideas that can contribute to research, innovation, and social engagement. Your participation will enrich our academic community and strengthen its dynamism.

I hope that the years ahead will provide you with a strong foundation of knowledge, open new academic and professional horizons, foster lasting friendships, and offer valuable experiences through which you can recognise and realise your full potential.

I wish you every success as you begin your academic journey.

Welcome to the University of Thessaly.
